Spotlight: Super Luxury.

 Super Luxury 04

Euphoria comes about in many forms. From staring at a waterfall as the sun goes down all the way through to getting more red Fruit Pastilles than yellow ones, life throws up many things to inspire and motivate us to be better people and see the world in a different light. Leeds’ very own Super Luxury have this same sort of power within them as well. The only difference is that except triggering an awe-inspiring moment, they are far more likely to make you curious as to what it would be like to pull your arm out it’s socket and see how wobbly it goes. Same thing though really.

With their music, Super Luxury are the true essence of catharsis. Painstakingly on-point but also sluggishly loose in approach, the quartet’s take on brass, bold noise rock is both recklessly disjointed and deeply intriguing. Lazy guitars and walls of screeching plaster themselves all over the band’s new album ‘Ten Solid Years Of Applause’, the follow-up to 2012’s swift kick in the balls EP ‘Mystery Thriller Teen Drama’, and manage to cross the full spectrum of what rock and roll can achieve. From the banshee squeals and clattering riffs of ‘Golden Climbing’ and the rollicking pace of  ‘Constant Delicious’ to the distorted brashness of ‘Milk Sauce’ and thick crusty battering of closer ‘Crunchy Boy’, the band take you on a unique journey that leaves the ears buzzing, eyes itchy and brain fried like an egg on a car bonnet.

If you were hoping to stumble upon a discomforting, deranged and engrossing racket , Super Luxury may be your ticket to a thoroughly draining but stirring experience. To be honest though you aren’t going to want to sleep on a band with a tune called ‘Ian Mackaye Made So Much Money Out Of Fugazi That He Lives In A Solid Gold House And Drives A Solid Gold Car And He Sits On His Driveway But He Can’t Go Anywhere Because The Wheels Are Made Of Solid Gold’ are you?  Nah thought not.

‘Ten Solid Years Of Applause ‘ is released 21st March on British Wildlife Records.
